Bafta Winners Portfolio

2020 was the year that many people turned to television to provide escape, understanding and entertainment. When BAFTA awarded this year’s television accolades, for safety the winners could sadly not attend a ceremony in person. So as a way of celebrating their achievements BAFTA and I set about creating a unique set of portraits, an intimate record for the BAFTA Photography Archive featuring the best talent in British television.

The pandemic meant that I had to take longer than normal making this portfolio, so I embraced that as an opportunity. Before meeting each award winner I made sure to talk to them and find out more about them. What do they do to find inspiration? What places do they love most? How have they been spending their time? I wanted to create the ideas for our photoshoot together, so we used these conversations as a starting point for our approach. That’s how I found myself running through a forest with Sian Clifford, diving in a lake with Jamie Demetriou, or buying kebabs with Will Sharpe. Every person featured was so open and giving with their time and ideas. It was truly a joy creating this portfolio.
