Alan Cumming – EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026

Loved photographing the BAFTA Film Awards’ new host. Alan really took to our little box, throwing amazing shapes all shoot long. See him in full swing on stage this Sunday at the Royal Festival Hall. I will be there too, though hiding behind the curtain with a camera in hand.

Stepping back into the Royal Festival Hall to create portraits at the BAFTA Film Awards was an absolute joy. There’s nothing quite like Britain’s biggest night in cinema. These are not photos that I could ever make alone – the BAFTA photography team are the very best partners. It’s been a true honour to work with such amazing people again to capture the smallest slither of the magic of cinema. Hope you enjoy scrolling through the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them BAFTA Photo Team: Claire Rees, Ellie Elliott, Rebecca Grey Set Builder: Simon Godfrey Lighting Supplier: Direct Digital Assistants: George Hall, Philip Hardman Retoucher: Melissa Morgan

Robert Downey Jr. - BAFTA - BAFTA Film Awards 2024 - Charlie Clift

BAFTA Film Awards 2024

It was an honour to return to the Royal Festival Hall to create portraits at Britain’s biggest night in cinema – the BAFTA Film Awards. It was the night that Christopher Nolan won his first golden masks, Da’Vine Joy Randolph moved us to tears and Michael J. Fox gave a very special appearance. In my portrait studio Robert Downey Jr. danced whilst Cillian Murphy took it all in, Paul Mescal giggled with Andrew Scott, Hannah Waddingham did the twist, and it was a joy to have Cate Blanchett back in front of my camera again. On the 5th floor, away from the dazzling lights of the ceremony, I built an intimate space allowing my sitters a moment of release after the emotions felt on stage. Taking inspiration from Richard Avedon’s early work, I flooded my set in light reminiscent of an artist’s workshop – soft and gentle. Mixed with the...

Returnal – Bafta Game Awards

To mark their wins at the BAFTA Game Awards 2022, I photographed Returnal’s creative director Harry Krueger and actress Jane Perry at the BAFTA HQ. In a triumphant double-whammy, Returnal won Best Game, and Jane won Best Actress for her role in Returnal. It was fascinating to hear about the process of creating, building and starring in a virtual universe, and to capture Harry and Jane’s achievements in the ever-growing gaming industry. Many thanks to Claire Rees and Jordan Anderson at Bafta for the brilliant commission, and to my assistants Pim and Oli.

TV Winners – Bafta

After photographing the Bafta TV Awards official portraits I was given the chance to meet more amazing award winners. I was eager to make these shoots really personal, so asked each person to take me to a location that meant a lot to them. That led to an emotional return to Malachi Kirby’s childhood estate, sharing a fishing trip with Charlie Cooper, diving into a much loved street market with Marian Mohamed’s, and enjoying champagne and haribo by the canal with Georgi Banks-Davies. You can watch a couple of behind the scenes films here, or click through to see each of these shoots in full: Charlie Cooper – Best Actor in a comedy Malachi Kirby – Best Supporting Actor Marian Mohamed – Emerging Talent Factual Georgi Banks Davies – Emerging Talent Fiction Massive thanks to Claire Rees and Jordan Anderson at Bafta for commissioning me for these incredible shoots.  ...

Charlie Cooper – Bafta

From a giraffe, to a tree, to a washed out rock and roll star Charlie Cooper dived into every idea I threw at him on our photoshoot to celebrate his recent Bafta for best actor in a comedy. “Charlie tried to get me to become characters during the shoot. We created this backstory of a washed up, Bill Nighy type, rock and roll star.” Who knew what a simple red carnation could inspire? I wasn’t surprised to see amazing ideas spurting out of Mr Cooper whilst we messed about together, this man has created a much loved comedy with his sister by embracing the strange and wonderful things that happen nearby. Living in the middle of the Cotswolds he still loves to be near nature and finds it helps his work. “To be able to look out the window and see miles and miles of greenery, it’s important to me. And...
